Despite the rich cultures, biodiversity, and astonishing landscapes, tourists are more obsessed with nature and the kindness of the people. I have read on one of the social media posts written by one of the tourists from Norway which says ‘Beside the incredible culture, the spirituality, the peace I feel while exploring, the stunning landscapes and the delicious food, the people are what gave us strong feelings and amazing connections in Bhutan’. Those lines from her made me believe even more that, it is not only the cultures and traditions that attract travelers to Bhutan rather it’s also the Bhutanese people who have a strong grasp on attracting more tourists with their naturally inbuilt kindness and respect towards international travelers. In my virtual conversation with one of the recent travelers, Dino Serrao from Norway says, “I believe that there might be a reason for increasing the sustainable development fees. But I can’t really say if it could be less or more expensive but I didn’t feel too much in my opinion. My experience was just amazing. Nothing like this in this world. It was worth any single cent we spent, because the beauty of the land, the people, the connection with the culture, and the deep positive vibration have no price. The experience was beyond any usual touristic trip. It was a deep journey with the soul”. He also shared “I don’t think Bhutan needs to improve much, I can’t really say because I’ve been there just for 10 days to analyze in deep. However, I would say Bhutan may need to showcase better what “A visit in Bhutan” really means and is, through all the possible ways and technologies today, like Social Media and more. Showing how unique is to come to this land, and making sure people understand when you come here, you come for an incredible journey through Bhutanese culture, mindset, lifestyle, and more. People shouldn’t come here just to see the beautiful temples. There is so much more to see and experience”. I was amazed by what the travelers had to say after coming to Bhutan. Nature and the kindness of the people of Bhutan are what they adored the most. Thus, tourism should not be taken for granted, we must respect and maintain their security at all costs because they believe in Bhutanese people and believe that Bhutan is a peaceful country, where there is no disharmony among the people and the society.
With the increasing number of tourists flying to Bhutan despite the high sustainable development fees (SDF), the people and the tourism sector have no time to bask in the sun and get tanned. We as an individual has lots of tasks to perform in our society that will enhance the new tagline. Therefore, Let us pledge ourselves to be more optimistic about the future, commit to our own effort, and more importantly believe in ourselves first so that it becomes more effortless, meaningful, and authentic to communicate with the outside world and flourish our new national tourism tagline, “BELIEVE”.
